About Us

Games Workshop is the largest and the most successful tabletop wargames company in the world. Tabletop wargames use plastic and metal toy soldiers to enact battles on a tabletop and provide a stimulating, social and fulfilling alternative to computer and video games.

The Games Workshop Hobby
Our hobby consists of two separate but intertwined parts, modeling and painting miniatures and playing games. Before they can play our games, hobbyists must assemble and paint their armies of miniatures. This part of the hobby allows for boundless creativity as hobbyists chose what time of units to include, how to pose them and what colors to paint them. Paint schemes range from fairly basic to jaw-droppingly beautiful and everything in between. Once armies are assembled and painted they can be pitted against other armies in one the tabletop. Our tactical gaming systems allow players to move their troops around the tabletop and engage them in simulated battle. Inventing new tactics and optimizing armies to play our games is an art form in and of itself and thousands of players enjoy challenging one another in tournaments throughout the year.

Our Games and Miniatures
We produce rulebooks and models for three core game systems: Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, and The Lord of The Rings Strategy Battle Game. Warhammer takes place in a grim fantasy world where knights in shining armor crash into regiments of bloodthirsty warriors, archers darken the sky with arrows and powerful war machines belch flaming death. Warhammer 40,000 brings the war-torn universe of the 41st Millennium onto your tabletop with genetically engineered space marines, armored battle tanks and powerful alien adversaries. The Lord of The Rings Strategy Battle Game lets you reenact the adventures of The Lord of The Rings books and films on the tabletop.

Where to Purchase Our Products
Our miniatures, rulebooks, hobby supplies and other products are available in our own chain of retail stores called Games Workshop Hobby Centers. There are dozens of Hobby Centers in malls and shopping centers across the country and we are continually expanding. Hobby Centers don't just sell our products, they are also a great place for hobbyists to hang out, paint miniatures and play games. Our products are also available through our online store, or mail order department and through hundreds of independent retailers. No matter where you live, you should have no problem finding an outlet for Games Workshop products.

Our Publications
To support these endeavors, GW publishes White Dwarf, our monthly hobby magazine. White Dwarf includes articles on painting miniatures, constructing scenery, gaming tactics and more. The magazine is also an excellent source for news and events coverage for the hobby. To supplement White Dwarf we also publish many hobby articles on this web site, these articles can be found in the sections for individual games, our daily updates page and in Black Gobbo, our bi-weekly hobby article showcase.

Our Events
There are countless events throughout the year for Games Workshop hobbyists to participate in. The largest events are certainly Games Days, huge day-long conventions, featuring tournaments, open gaming, painting and modeling activities and the Golden Demon painting competition. We also sponsor several two-day tournament events each year called Grand Tournaments. Independent retailers and gaming clubs sponsor numerous local tournaments called Rogue Trader Tournaments so no player should ever have trouble finding and opponent.
