Once you've decided that the Orks are the Warhammer 40,000 army for you, the next step is to get Codex: Orks.

Of course, to get the most from this codex, you'll need the main Warhammer 40,000 rules! You can get these rules in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook (shown right) or in the Battle for Macragge boxed set. Either way, the Warhammer 40,000 rules will help you understand the gaming information presented in Codex: Orks, and put it all in the context of the greater universe of Warhammer 40,000.

Every codex is divided into several main sections, each of which deals with different aspects of the army. Codex: Orks contains:

Artwork from Codex: Orks. The Ork Race. The first section introduces the Orks and looks at "Greenskin Kultur." It examines a few of the many Ork clans and tribes. Finally, this section looks at the countless battles and the massive Waaaghs! that the Orks have launched over the millennia.

In the final section, you will see photographs of the range of Citadel miniatures available for the Orks, gloriously painted by Games Workshop's 'Eavy Metal team. Colour schemes for the different Ork clans and example armies can all be found in this section.

Units are classed as either HQ, Elites, Troops, Fast Attack, or Heavy Support and can be taken in different quantities depending on the number of other units you have taken. Each unit also has a points value to help ensure you can pit your army against an opponent's in a fair match.

Once you've gotten your own copy of Codex: Orks, it's time to start building your army of miniatures.
