Ross Watson (from WD294): Every year, the big TV networks come up with a new programming lineup of shows. There's "Sweeps Week," "Prime Time," and other strange terms that get bandied about, as the stations fiddle with things behind the scenes. Eventually, we end up with something new to watch during the upcoming season. Some old shows fade away; others stay the same; and still others are added or updated.

This year, 2004, is Warhammer 40,000's time to go through some changes, and right now is the prime time to talk about the ways those changes will impact your games. Vehicles have gone through some fairly serious changes in the revised edition of the game, meaning that their role on the battlefield needs to be reevaluated. Many new and veteran players are asking, "What do these changes mean?" and "How will these changes affect my army?" This article will take you through the answers to these two questions and more.

The breakdown of how vehicles are classified for Warhammer 40,000 is still pretty much the same, from their place in the Force Organization Chart (i.e., Fast Attack or Heavy Support) to the way they move on the battlefield (i.e., walker or skimmer). However, to illustrate how things are not the same, we've divided vehicles up by their battlefield roles into four categories: Bashers, Smashers, Flankers, and Transports. Some vehicles can fit into more than one category (e.g., Land Raiders are Transports, but they also make exceptional Bashers). This article discusses each vehicle under its primary or most common role.

INTRO - BASHERS - SMASHERS - FLANKERS - TRANSPORTS
